Tanks for the Fish

6 March 2008

Fish Tak Toilet Well, now, just when I think they can’t think of anything else, they come up with something else I know I just gotta have. What could be better than a toilet like this! The Fish-n-Flush bathroom aquarium is both a conversation piece and a way to introduce an aquarium into that smallest of rooms. You even have your choice of a fresh or saltwater aquarium, although a tank this small is better suited to fresh water fish.

It is a bit of whimsy and a bit of irony, all rolled up in one. If you’ve ever owned a fish tank, you know what happens to the ones you find floating on top of the tank. Well, that was then, and this is now, and now the fish graveyard is their home! Of course, if you should have to, um, dispose of another unfortunate, you won’t have to worry about dripping on the carpeting!

FishTankToilet Now, now, I know what you’re thinking. Unusual idea, but the first time you flush it, that’s it for the fish, right? Wrong, actually. This is deliberately made to look like one tank, but is, in fact, two tanks. The inner tank, notwithstanding its clear sides, is a fully functioning toilet tank, complete with flapper valve and all the other toilet tank parts.

The outer tank, where the fish live, is actually a U-shaped tank that wraps around the inner tank. The tank where the fish live is made of acrylic and, claims the manufacturer, is impact resistant and stronger than china. It has also been designed to fit directly against the companion tank reservoir, thereby giving the illusion of a single tank. The fixture will fit most toilets and it has been made in such a way that the outer fish tank can easily be removed for cleaning without effecting the operation of the toilet itself.

The outer tank for the fish is a fully-functioning, two-gallon tank that will accommodate a fair number of small fish. And just like other fish tanks, it has a light, so if you’re one of those who routinely uses a night light in the bathroom you now have a chance to take that night light idea to “the next level!”
