Color Me Bold
7 March 2008We’ve been having a lot of fun this week with unusual bathroom fixtures, but we would like to end the week with a serious note on a stunning line of bathroom fixtures. The Jemal Wright Bath Design Studio has come out with two lines of fixtures that can, if integrated into the right kind of bathroom, make a most dramatic presentation.
Every bathroom that ever was has a porcelain toilet. Jemal Wright takes this concept in an entirely different direction. Their Chromeozone™ process is not porcelain; it is chrome plated porcelain. And then they go that one better. They have dyed it to match virtually any color in the spectrum, and by doing so, they are able to retain the metallic brilliance of chrome while splashing it with the most vibrant colors imaginable. Couple this with glass tile and an interior designer with a flair for the unusual and dramatic, and suddenly, a small guest bathroom has become a real focal point.
And for those who want more, more is provided. They also have a line called Isis™ which has been designed from the same platform as that used for their Chromeozone™ line. To it, though, they add Swarovski™ crystals, which adds a wonderful splash of glitter. There are some forty colors of stone available, so there is definitely something for every taste.
What they have set out to do is make a work of art from that humble bathroom fixture, and to show how serious they are about it, each piece is finished with the studio’s signature logo and numbered and recorded for authenticity.
As with so many things, colors this intense are not for the faint of heart, but carefully integrated into the proper color scheme, these fixtures could be just that needed touch of flair to lift one’s bathroom above the commonplace. But it is very much a concept to be used with care, as the garish forever lurks about concepts this bold. Or as Napoleon put it after his failed Russian campaign, “From the sublime to the ridiculous is just a step.”
