Blum Aventos Cabinet Door Lift System
2 April 2008“I Second This Blumotion”
The Blum Aventos lift system is another concept from a company that, in recent years, has very much been on the cutting edge of technology. All of their products revolve around their hardware, but hardware, with Blum, is a growth concept, something that enables them to continually market something new and different. Aventos is a case in point.
It’s a door lift system for upper cabinets that opens easily and remains in any desired position. And when you are finished, it closes silently and easily, as it is based on the ever-more-popular Blumotion system. Blum makes these in 4 different Aventos configurations - HF, HS, HL and HK.
The HF System is for bi-fold doors and features a special new break-away hinge designed to prevent users from accidentally pinching their fingers. It’s a slick idea. Joe had a Blum rep, Gary Riley, demonstrate this for him the other day. Gary came with our local San Diego area E.B. Bradley rep Chris Karl. Chris was also eager to show the finger demo as well.
The HS Up and Over System is for single doors, and has a motion that just tilts the door up, then stops and holds it wherever you move it to.
The HL Lift UP System requires a lot of clearance above the cabinet, but does not swing in your face. With Aventos HL, a one-piece door front lifts up vertically and provides unhindered access to the interior. This might be a good choice for those with high ceilings.
The HK Stay Lift System is also for single doors. Blum says that this would be good above a refrigerator.
Personally, I think you would need a ladder to close the door. From what I can see, it will work much better with low cabinet heights.
For those who are not familiar with it, Blumotion is one of the slicker concepts Blum ever came up with. They started with regular doors, expanded it to drawer slides and now to Aventos, the lift system pictured above. Blumotion enables people to slam a drawer or door shut, knowing that technology will take over and ease the door or drawer into a feather-like landing. And just as it is with anything else, some people find that sort of thing handy; some find it fun to show off with; some find it to be, frankly, just whistles and bells. But for those who like it, the Aventos is another application of a very popular concept.
My first thought on viewing this product, to be honest about it, was not particularly warm, but then I discussed it with my wife and got a woman’s point of view. First, any cabinet that butts to a wall or a run of cabinets could benefit from this concept, because the door comes straight up and out of the way and allows one to access the contents of the cabinet. And for those with impossibly small bathrooms (that would be us!), a cabinet over the toilet with a door that opens straight up would be a wonderful relief for that crowded feeling.
Hutches over home offices could benefit from this type of door, as there is often quite a bit of space above them. And, many of the homes now being built have cathedral ceilings, which are just the thing for this sort of door action.
Finally, Blumotion, with its smooth gliding action that needs only a touch to start or stop, is just the thing for this type of cabinet door. There are, of course, other styles of flipper doors, but none that work this smoothly. It’s your home; why not install the best?
