LIGHTING A BACKYARD PARADISE

“Light Up the Night”

One of the things I most wanted to do when I made an elaborate yard for us was to simply have a place all our own where we could retreat to at the end of the day, a place of tranquility with as much peace and serenity as it was possible for a cabinetmaker to instill into it. So, that was my goal, and that is what I built.

This bench is not an item I would want for myself, and if you saw last week’s blogs on our yard, both on this site and on Thinking About It, you know why. That said, I have to acknowledge that not eFrellstedt 4veryone is a cabinetmaker—or foolish enough to spend ten years of his life on a project like that. For the rest of us, then, Frellstedt’s Light Bench is a product that makes enormous sense for a yard.

The lighting was the last thing I did for our yard, and I have to tell you that it made an enormous difference. There’s a safety factor, of course, but even more important is the wonderful ambience it brings to the yard, and the way in which it makes it a wonderful place to sit on those wonderful long, warm summer evenings.

There are any number of solar and low voltage lighting systems available, of course, but the one thing I always look for, when I can find it, is something different. In fact whenever we’re making plans for a new project, if we find ourselves not sure if we want to utilize whatever diffFrellstedt 2erent element we may have decided on, Christine is sure to say, “But we’ve always done different things.”

One of the things to keep uppermost in your mind, if you are one of those who are contemplating a backyard paradise of some sort, is how you mean to light it. What you most hope to achieve by day, of course, is a “land of enchantment,” but the other side of the coin is to also make of it a “wonderland by night,” to “coin” a couple of phrases that are totally stolen!

And that brings us back to the Light Bench by Frellstedt. We’ve shown it here in several different colors, but we’ve only shown one model. With the magic of Light-emitting diodes (to spell out LED for a change!), these benches can be lighted in literally millions of adjustable shades of hard or soft colors. You can even program the bench to subtly change colors while you and your honey “talk like lovers do.” Who knows, maybe you can even get it to fade to black… just in case!
