“Going My Way”

When we started this website and were still finding our legs, we wrote a long series of blogs on second kitchens, but since then we have done very little on the subject. In a nutshell, a second kitchen is just that, a second kitchen in addition to one’s regular kitchen. They come in all sizes and shapes and exist for all kinds of reasons. Some want to heat croissants in the master bedroom; others want a coffee maker and hot plate away from the maiLago Cucina 2n kitchen. And some, the very rich, want a complete second kitchen for cooking, as the main kitchen is for entertaining guests, and all that cooking commotion messes things up!

Since then I have not written on the subject, not from lack of interest so much, as from lack of anything new to write about. In the intervening months I did occasionally come across a kitchen concept that could well be used by those who wanted it for a second kitchen, but none that really inspired me to write a blog until now.

Lago is another in a seemingly interminable line of Italian companies that are designing kitchens and bathrooms that can only be described as breathtaking. Their 36e8 kitchen “non-kitchen” suites are one of the most innovative concepts I have ever seen, and one that is weLago Cucina 4ll suited to a second kitchen. Or a first kitchen for that matter. A kitchen anywhere one wants it almost seems to be the ticket here—and in any configuration one wants it to be.

What one notices first are vibrant colors and wondrous surfaces, but the main virtue of this concept, to my mind, is its versatility. If you were able to simply arrange your cabinets on a wall in any shape and form that pleased you, what would you do with it? Now’s your chance to find out, because the 36e8 kitchen “non-kitchen” suites concept is designed for just that.

Lago Cucina 3 You can actually stack the units like building blocks to produce any number of forms. But wait, there’s more! They also have extra-clear plate crystal supports, which can be used to suspend the base, even extending them into the middle of the room, thereby creating the illusion of a floating counter.

With a kitchen design like this one, you can have a lot of kitchen or a little kitchen or an in-between kitchen, and you can make it look pretty much anyway you want it to look. It would be ideal for a second kitchen where the room was limited. Hell, it would probably drop right into that little postage stamp we use for a kitchen! But whichever way it goes—and it does go a lot of ways—it does appear to be going my way—or yours.
