PRIVATE PERGOLAS

“Like Lovers Do”
This is not the place for a protracted philosophical discussion on esoteric subjects like cause and effect, but looking at the subject of today’s blog, I do find myself wondering if people become romantic because they seek out tête-à-tête seating, of if they seek out tête-à-tête seating because they already are romantic! I will tell you, though, that had I not already made some five or six tête-à-tête seating arrangements in our home for my wife and me, I would be lined up to purchase something like this.
The “Fall in Love” and “Tête-à-tête” Pergolas from Pircher are well-named and take me all the way back to the beginning of our marriage. The “Fall in Love” has two adjustable Saigon deckchairs side-by-side in the circular pergola we show here, and if young lovers don’t find it conducive to doing just that—falling in love—well, maybe they’re not young lovers! Have you been married for a long time? Do you remember how it was in those days? Are you a young single starting out, making your own home, looking for romance in all the wrong places, as the song says. Hey, this could be the right place! Write a check, get some magic—it could happen!
But having a pergola like this one… isn’t that the sort of thing that gives rise to poetry like:
“A Book of Verses underneath the Bough,
A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread and Thou ”
The other particularly appealing concept is the tête-à-tête, which can be used for a number of things besides romantic seating for two. One can add tables and chairs, even trellises for plants, and it is large enough that it can even be used in commercial settings for those setting up a restaurant. When my wife and I were first married, we used to go to a pizza parlor on Fridays, as they had small, intimate booths, a setting so determinedly designed for lovers that we only stopped going there when we moved away from the area!
They are both very exciting concepts, and as I said, all that keeps me from sending away for them is that I already have a house full of tête-à-tête seating. I did it because that kind of intimate setting takes us back to when we first fell in love. And what is slick is that we feel that way to this day, 32 years later. We just enjoy spending time together, talking and talking and talking—anything and everything—like lovers do.
