KITCHEN DESIGN

Effeti 1

How many ways is it possible to take a single line or two, and with those lines, design an entire kitchen? Is it even possible to do such a thing, you may ask, to which my answer must surely be this photographs, becEffeti 4ause Effeti has, in fact designed their entire kitchen with just a few simple lines. And yet, for all the austerity of this kitchen design, there is about it an elegance that wipes away any vestiges of starkness, making it, not stark, but incredibly rich in its simplicity.

I have already written several blogs on Effeti, one of those marvelous Italian makers of kitchens, because I find their kitchen designs so inspiring, but their new Sinuosa kitchen is—well, I was going to say it’s an exercise in minimalism, but, really, it’s a textbook on it! Minimalism is more than just less, if that does not seem like too much a contradiction in terms. It’s a simplicity in design, which is achieved by using a few very simple elements, but the challenge, of course, is in using those few design elements to maximum effect.

The design of the Sinuosa kitchen is minimalism perEffeti 2sonified. It is a few lines that have somehow shaped an entire kitchen and then placed that kitchen in a minimum of space for those who may have a home that does not lend itself to a five or six hundred square foot kitchen. This kitchen has all  the storage space anyone is ever going to need for the pantry items and dishes in the kitchen island and the tall unit at the rear, but they’ve achieved this with an absolute minimum of fuss. And for those who would like an eating area in the kitchen, they also have a version with an integrated counter.

What I particularly like about this kitchen design, though, is the absolute lack of clutter. And, more than that, there are smooth surfaces that run from one end to the other. As an old Army cook, I really do prefer a clean kitchen, but like most of us, I tend to just wipe it down on a daily basis, leaving the scrubbings for a later day. But several times a year I move everything off the countertops and scrub like the soldier I once was to get the kitchen looking the way I feel it should look. But this kitchen! Man, you would never need anything more than a dish rag at the end of every meal, and it would always be standing tall! Less is more. Start spreading the news.
