“Loving it is Easy”
OK, I have talked about just about every wonderful configuration for a bathroom that I have ever come across on my many Internet Google searches for the new, the exotic, and the essentially unobtainable, but I have not entirely exhausted the genre, not by any m
eans, actually. One of the things we have not yet talked about is the possibility, for those who the room for such a thing, of adding a sauna to one’s bathroom. It’s not the sort of thing one normally thinks of in terms of a bathroom unless one comes from the Nordic countries, but with just a little bit of exposition here, I have every confidence that you will soon see that it not only makes sense, but makes a lot of sense.
One of the things we have discussed in previous blogs is the newer idea of a steam shower, because of the utter tranquility it introduces to both tired muscles and tired psyches, but the sauna is another step in that direction. Actually, it is the original step in that direction, and if you’ve never experienced one, you’ve not yet experienced one of the profundities of life.
A sauna is considerably more than a place to sit and sweat. Hell, any banker can get that in the office these days! What it really is is a place to sit, to think, to expound on t
hings. There is something about that hot room that is conducive to the thought process, and it’s a place for conversations that have a depth heretofore unknown to one. It is also as relaxing an experience as you can imagine.
If, like me, you spend too much time in the wee hours of the morning on the weekends after the football games, good movies, and every other actually worthwhile TV program is done for the day, you’re bound to come across an infomercial that seems interesting for no other reason than that it’s on, and there’s still some more beer in the refrigerator. If so, you may have come across someone hawking a steam iron wand of some sort that one simply waves over one’s clothing, and, like magic, every wrinkle, crease, and sign of hard wear is instantly removed. I bring that up because a sauna tends to do that with one’s body.
With that as preface, then, we can turn
to today’s subject, the Viitta from B+S Finland Sauna. It comes in a size that makes it perfect for enjoying with friends, so if you’re one of those who has a pool and likes to entertain guests in it, you now have the perfect accompaniment, because there is nothing quite so invigorating as sitting in the spa for a length of time and then jumping into a cold pool.
This particular sauna is large enough for one to unwind and stretch out, and it has a lot of built in variations on a theme, starting with customizable temperature and humidity, for those who may prefer a low temperature and high humidity, or any variation thereof. You can also coordinate these saunas with your bathroom tiles and have your pick of building materials and configurations. You can even include a starry star above or a basin full of aromatic herbs.
What’s in a sauna? Pretty much everything, and if you should take the plunge, you may find that the song writer was right. Loving it is easier than anything you’ll ever do again.

Well, hot damn there Joseph! You mean to say that redwood lined closet next to my bathroom is one of them thar saunas? I was wondering why they put the heater and bench in there. I thought maybe it was to sit on while I put on my shoes.
On the serious side, saunas really are not for everyone. We actually do have a sauna and use ours as a closet. It came with the house. Neither my wife nor I have any interest in sitting and sweating. Plus I can just imagine my electric meter spinning like a top!
