“…And the Living is Easy”
I don’t remember my family ever barbequing when I was a kid growing up, but I’m not sure if that was because we were rather poor (we sometimes had to wear sun glasses with only one lens!) or because we lived i
n Montana and really just went into the mountains for picnics and then did our cooking over an open fire. It’s a wonderful place to fish, by the bye, and if you’ve never hiked and fished all day and then fried those babies up over an open fire, you might want to put that on your bucket list (things to do before you kick the bucket). But now that I’m older and softer and a lot more comfy, living, as I do, in the year round nice that is San Diego weather, I find myself rather fascinated by outdoor kitchens.
Last week I featured some blogs on our back yard, which is something I designed and built long before I began surfing the web in search of topics for this website, but I can tell you that if I were still in possession of an empty yard, I would have dropped an outdoor kitchen into that planning. Going out back and barbequing is quintessential summertime living, but if you have the room and budget for it, an outdoor kitchen is the ultimate, so it’s easy to see why outdoor kitchens have taken off in recent years.
With that as background, then, I have to say that when I am looking for outdoor kitchen concepts to feature on these pages, what I look for is their design statement and their pract
icality. And that brings us to today’s featured company, Atlantis Outdoor Kitchens.
Speaking as one who spent some ten years of his life to achieve it, I can tell you that there is nothing quite so rewarding as a back yard with wow factor (I’ve posted quite a few pictures of it on my private blog.), and Atlantis clearly understands that aspect of things. But the other thing is not just another thing; it is the thing—durability.
Nothing says loving to hubby (because, c’mon, you know who’s going to have to keep that yard up) like an outdoor kitchen that requires little or no maintenance. Every Spring I grab a paint brush and say good bye to my life for a few weeks. Atlantis Outdoor Cabinetry, by way of distinct contrast, is made of polymer material that is said to be so durable that it is unaffected by rain or snow (can’t say I’m concerned about THAT, but oh, that painting!). And they say, too, that it will not warp, crack or deteriorate over time. Suggested clean up is with a garden hose and scrub brush. Now, how are you going to beat a deal like that!
