“A Little Less”

LineaAqua 4 I am so used to seeking out the exotic and outrageously different for these blogs that I sometimes forget that the “rest of us” are really looking for something well, a bit less, in their bathroom designs. What you are trying to do, really, is to come up with a design that is different, but how different is it going to be? Well, that depends, in large part, on your courage, but also, I think, on the architecture of your home. Regular readers of these blogs know already that the ultra modern positively makes me drool, but even as I  explore those ideas, I am left with the knowledge that none of them would ever fit into my own home. It’s a tract house and looks it, and to put in something that austere—well, it just wouldn’t go.

So what are the alternatives then?

I really just want something simple, something that enables me to put away a few items and that enables the bathroom to look nice and stylish, instead of the garbage that is now in it. Quite frankly, the ideal solution for a cabinetmaker like myself is something built in, maybe even something of teak, just to show off. But not everyone has that option. And who knows? Maybe even a guy like me is going to say that he’d rather spend his time with something else. Enter something pre-built. But if it is to be pre-built, could it at least be something that is made with style and grace, something that makes of the bathroom all that it can be, despite its small size? And with that we have given a lengthy introduction to a company that is doing all these things and doing with them with all the grace and ease of a cat skinning a pole.

LineaAqua 3 LineaAqua is a company that is situated on six continents, having elected to leave Antarctica to the penguins, and they’ve achieved this status with a purity of design that, while different, does not overwhelm one with its innovation.

LineaAqua’s Emanuel Bathroom Vanity is a case in point. What they’ve done with their Emanuel is to combine the sophisticated look of a see-through tempered glass top with a solid oak cabinet that gives one the best of two worlds, really—the sleek look of glass and the solid practicality of oak. The countertop itself is ¾” thick, and it has a sunken, fully visible glass basin with a one touch pop-up drain. They have also designed a matching freestanding side cabinet with a frosted door, making it perfect for both display and storage.

How practical is something this small? Hey, you should see my bathroom, man! And, in any case, for second bathrooms or the bathroom of an older, balding man who really just brushes his teeth, washes his face and shaves—well, how much room am I going to need for that, really! And something this small is going to store everything I actually use, while leaving no room at all for that paraphernalia I never use. Less, hell! I think it’s more!
