“The Best Things in Life”

Maax Roman Bathtub 1 There is a mindset that says, “I never take baths; I take showers. So, why do I need a tub in my bathroom?” And I have to confess that I subscribed to this myself, and still do to some extent. In my case it is a feeling caused by bathrooms that are much too small and access to an outdoor spa that is an absolute life saver, I can tell you. It’s an age thing. When we put that spa in some ten years ago, we had “other plans” for it, wink, wink. Now we use it a lot for the therapy that is one of its selling points. Quite frankly, with us, it is one of its saving graces. Or is that most essential grace? In any case, I cannot tell you how often I have made the “old man hobble” out to it and been restored in a matter of some ten or twenty minutes. And if you’re younger, don’t laugh. You’re getting old too. It just doesn’t seem like it right now, but trust me, your day is coming. But I digress.

Maax Roman Bathtub 2 For those with the room for it, there really is nothing more luxurious than a bathroom with both a separate tub and separate shower, and if that separate tub has about it a touch of elegance and pampering luxury… well, it really doesn’t get any better than that. Enter MAAX, a North American company headquartered in Montreal, Canada.

The Viaggi bathtub is an egg-shaped tub that sits on exotic wood legs, thereby elevating it almost to the status of art. It’s the kind of shape that almost begs the lucky homeowner to sink into it at the end of a particularly trying day and let the world and its insanities pass on by.

But my own particular favorite in this blog—and I hasten to add that these are only two examples of a rather extensive line of tubs—is the Roman bathtub we’ve featured here. It has absolutely classical lines, but, the best feature is what’s inside, the spa jets. In the 14th century, the revival of all things Greek and Roman was known as the Renaissance. If, when you remodel your bathroom, you include a tub spa like the Roman tub by MAAX which we’ve featured here, the revival you experience will be YOU. It’s a gift that keeps on giving both in your youth—wink, wink—and in that inevitable time that comes to us all. Trust me on this, as you age—and you will—popping into a spa on an as-needed basis is more than a luxury; it’s a necessity. The best things in life are free, they say, but I doubt that “they” checked out these tubs!
