“Making It Better”
Because we’re two woodworkers who put this site together, we tend to approach the site from that standpoint, and today I thought I would really work that angle a little. I don’t know how one goes about comparing a kitchen stove to a jig saw, but by golly, I’m going to try. Actually, it gives me a chance to expound on one of my favorite themes, namely, you get what you pay for.
When I first got into woodworking, I had a jig saw that never really cut very well, but it’s “saving grace” was that it was cheap, so I used it for a while. But as my skills got better, I found myself wanting to not spend so much of my time re-doing work caused by cheap tools, so I bought a Bosch jig saw and have had it ever since. Anyone who does any amount of woodworking will first go through the “cheap is just as good” syndrome, but eventually, if you’re really serious about your woodworking, you will come around to the mantra which runs as follows: “I don’t really know which tools I paid too much for, but I can tell you which ones I didn’t pay enough for.”
So, I guess that’s a round about way of saying, if Bosch’s kitchen appliances are as good as their woodworking tools… but really, quality is much more a matter of pride, personal pride, really, of all those who participate in making any product you may care to name, from stoves to tools to cabinets. Bosch takes as their motto, “Invented for life,” and they really are.
The Bosch Evolution 700 Series Pro-Style Gas Range which we’ve featured here is very much a case in point. How much does it cost? Wrong question. The better question is, how well is it built, and what will it do to make one’s cooking more enjoyable? The Evolution Gas Free-Standing Range has been developed as the ultimate tool to help you “unleash your cooking instincts,” which sounds a tad hyperbolic until you check out the features on this bad boy.
It is equipped with powerful POWERSIM burners which deliver up to 16,000 TBU for faster boiling and excellent searing, while optimized burner spacing keeps every pot optimally positioned for maximum convenience. And if you’ve ever had to juggle a couple of big-bottomed pots or frying pans on a traditional one-size-fits-all burner configuration, you see at once the advantage of their design.
They have also come up with a Convection Assisted Self-Cleaning Oven design that is pretty much second to none. The picture we’ve shown here of the European Convection Oven with Advanced Circulation System (ACS) pretty much says it all. It also has an exclusive Touch & Turn control system that enables the user to access an array of cooking modes in fewer steps.
