Outdoor Furniture by Kenneth Cobonpue

“Works for me!”
I have a lot of fun with these blogs, but I am also serious in looking for ideas that are new, innovative, helpful—that sort of thing. One of the things I particularly like, though, is outdoor seating ideas, especially those that lend themselves to tête-à-têtes. And, just so we’re on the same page on this, I do NOT think it is a concept that is limited only to the romantic, or if speaking of the romantic, only for the young. Have you ever had one of those conversations that seems to just go on for ever, and the longer it goes on, the closer you feel to the other person? It can be a favorite sibling, a friend, an adult and a child, even two lovers, just so long as it is one of those conversations that you cannot bear the thought of seeing an end to.
Well, sir. One of the things that tends to bring those sort of conversations about is furniture that is made with it in mind. And with that, I can introduce the subject of today’s blog, namely the distinctive Lolah outdoor seating furniture by Kenneth Cobonpue.
Mr. Cobonpue was born in the Philippines and studied in New York and worked in Italy and Germany before returning home to Cebu, Philippines in 1996. He says of his influences, “I think Cebu and the surrounding islands somehow inspires much of my designs today. As a boy, I was always taken by the exuberant richness of nature that was around me. Years later, I realized that I can access all those memories to move my ideas forward.”
His Philippine roots are very evident in these designs which consist of rattan poles tied together with nylon wire. These items are available in brown or whitewash, and they are designed for both indoor and outdoor use. For those who want them outdoors, there is an option of a hard-wearing outdoor version in polyethylene and steel.
The Capsule is a seat for one that curves almost like a living tree, and the truly wonderful sofa/daybed is pretty much made for one of those long, intimate conversations. Seating like this, a little of the bubbly, and my wife—that pretty much does it for me!
