“It’s a Wonder!”

One of the things that has always fascinated me about writing is that it is possible to employ the same words everyone else uses every day of their lives and somehow use these words to shape incredible sentences. I’m never really sure of how well I am able to do that, but I certainly appreciate this talent in others, which is why I spend so much of my time with books. But the other thing that fascinates me is what can be done with items like wood and glass, the glass because my niece is a glass artist who is beginning to spread her wings, the wood, because I’ve dabbled in it myself from time to time. But wood, like glass and words, is this most incredibly plastic medium that allows the skillful to do some of the damnedest things. I bring that up because I wanted to return to Franco Ceccotti, the artist I wrote about last week. And please don’t tell me that he’s an artisan because what he makes is not in an art gallery. I’ve seen his work. And it’s art.

Last week I wrote about Franco Ceccotti’s furniture. As awesome as I found that, it was in many ways, just the tip of the iceberg. He has gone on to make some of the most glorious bathroom fixtures that ever were, glorious not only because of their shape and functionality, but because they are glorious, wonderful, exquisite wood. In a bathroom! Now how in the heck… But I digress.

Each piece brings with it a personality all its own, because with natural wood, no two pieces are ever exactly the same, and what they most wanted to emphasize with this line was the organic beauty of wood. The Agua bathtub which we’ve featured here is described by them as “heir of the old-fashioned tub,” but with its glorious wood and wonderful lines, it’s as modern as this morning. The Petal sink at the top of this blog and the curvy, elongated Wave would both do wonders to set off the wood tub. I don’t know how one would go about making a wooden shower, but they do have a wood Deck shower tray to complete the look for those who opt for an all-wood, all-glorious, all-out-of-this-world bathroom.

It’s more than just wood and beautiful, you know. It’s wood and it holds water, so you know what that makes it. It’s a mystery, a conundrum, an enigma, a paradox. So, how the hell can they make stuff like this out of wood, you wonder. Well… so do I!
