Bagnosasso Tubs 4

“Rendezvous With Exclusivity”

Bagnosasso Tubs 3 I pride myself on coming up with original titles for these blogs, but today’s title is deliberately borrowed from the website of the subject of today’s blog, namely a Swiss company called Bagno Sasso. I borrowed it because it does much to summarize what I have so often said in these blogs, that the whole of bathroom designs should be something different, yet functional. The difficulty with that, of course, is trying to come up with something different that still, somehow, does the job. And with that we can turn to the offerings of Bagno Sasso.

A retreat, a haven, a place that is different and luxurious and elsewhere—and that is the type of bathroom all of us dream of, right? One way to achieve such a state is with a tub, but not just any kind of tube, a wooden tub, and if it’s made of mahogany—definitely one of my favorite woods—then that just makes it all the more attractive.

The Ocean Shell which we featured at the top of this blog is a wonderfully shaped tub made entirely of wood that was said to be inspired by the design of a luxury yacht, but could just as easily have been inspired by the second movement of Hummel’s trumpet concerto, an exquisitely flowing piece that has both an ethereal air to it and a deepness that rewards repeat listenings—or, I suppose, baths!

Bagnosasso Tubs 10 Another in their Ocean line is the Ocean Circle, which is a wooden round tub which we also show here embedded in a fine gravel surround to soak up spilled water, which adds, I think, a special air to almost any bathroom, making of bathing—as opposed to the daily shower—an experience in luxury quite unlike any other.

As part of my research for these blogs, I often find myself reviewing forums on bathroom designs, where people occasionally ask what kind of bathtub they should put into a fairly small alcove. Well, sir! The Wave Skipper we’ve pictured here is shown in a bathroom much larger than mine, and yours too, I suspect, but it is certainly one that would lend itself to just such a use. And if the thought of easing yourself into a solid mahogany tub doesn’t chase away whatever demons may yet plague you after a day in corporate America, well, maybe you’d better consult a physician!
