“Ready to Go”
OK, let’s start this by pointing out that this kitchen actually does come in other colors besides the fire engine red we show it in here. Or should we say racing car red, as the name of the kitchen itself is the Ferrari kitchen design from Kicheconcept, which is another European kitchen manufacturer, German this time. There are a number of things that struck my eye about it, apart from the wonderful color. Truthfully, I’m not sure if I would want that bold a color for my own kitchen, but that may be more my age talking than anything else!
But there are any number of items in the kitchen itself that make it a decided possibility for just about anyone looking for a new kitchen, and especially this is so when, as we have pointed out, the color of the final product is entirely optional. It is intended to be as customizable as a pre-made kitchen can be, including not only the colors used but the wood finishes themselves.
The kitchen itself has been designed in a wave shape, with that particular counter wending its way by a high round cabinet with pivoting round shelves. It provides a total of four square meters of storage, which can be reached from either side of the cabinet. The wave counter itself has a full complement of large drawers with dividers. Under the integrated sink are some seven compartments for just about everything from trash to silverware storage. The ovens and a fair amount of extra storage are in the wall unit to the right of the curving counter.
But what I particularly like is what they did with the island. The electric stovetop is elevated above the rest of the island, and the front part of it has been placed at a comfortable height for dining with regular chairs. If you’ve ever wanted to get an omelet “hot off the stove,” now’s your chance! But it does provide a wonderful casual dining area that is still fairly compact, in keeping with the kitchen itself.
The other item that soothed my cabinetmaker’s soul is their insistence on making all cabinet parts from 19mm—or ¾”—material. More and more in these let’s-cut-another-corner-it-won’t-matter days, we are seeing cabinets that are made of 5/8″ material. These pe
ople use full-size ¾”, up to, and including, the cabinet backs! But wait, there’s more!
If you go to their site, they have a picture of a lady standing on a drawer to get something. Not something anyone would recommend, of course, but as an advertisement for how strong the drawer itself is, well, we can definitely say that both the glides and the bottom itself (can’t possibly be ¼”, now can it?) are strong enough to hold just about anything a person is actually going to put in a drawer.
Finally, if you’re in the United States as I am, you’re undoubtedly thinking, “Fine, but how will I get it here?” To which I would say, there is surely a way. If you get your cabinets from anyone but a local cabinetmaker—certainly the first choice of me and my partner!—the odds are very high that those cabinets have been made in a factory somewhere at a considerable distance from your home and then shipped there for installation by local craftsmen. So, what the hey! Why not, if the kitchen is going to be shipped to you anyway, get something that just flat knocks your socks off! This one appears to be, uh, red-e to go!
