“Can’t Touch This”
The Delta Pilar Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O™ Technology is more than just a clever advertising slogan or a new faucet line—it’s a new line of thinking, and I believe it will revolutionize kitchens.
My wife is the one who introduced me to this particular product, as she, like me, is constantly looking both for products for our blog site and products we can actually put to use in our own kitchen and baths when we finally do remodel those much-maligned—and deservedly so—rooms in our home. The ad she showed me depicted a lady touching the faucet with her forearm to turn it on, as her hands were covered with some white gooey stuff, which honest to goodness, I thought was caulk! And my thought was how convenient it would make it for my home improvement projects! But, then reality intruded.
Actually, that substance was cake frosting! And I am already on notice that I will not, not, not, NOT, I say, be using the kitchen sink for anything but food preparation when we do remodel our kitchen. So, no more caulk being washed off in the sink, and absolutely no more paint and varnish, especially paint. Man, you should see what I did to that poor sink! Or, actually, she’d better not see any more of that in the new kitchen. But I digress!
Truly, all of us have had that experience in the kitchen: hands all gooey with whatever we’re working with at the moment, but we need to turn the water on or off. If you use your hands on the faucet handle, when you’re finished washing your hands, you’ll have to wash the handles. Or you can try to turn the water on with your elbows, which is not anything that ever worked particularly well for me! Well, man, does Delta have something for us!
The Pilar is one of Delta’s many kitchen faucets, but the Pilar differs in that it uses Touch2O™ Technology. It’s a system that allows one to turn the water on or off by simply touching any part of the handle or faucet. You do have to pre-set the water—and you can even set the water temperature—but once you’ve done that, you can simply touch it on or off, especially when you’re baking. So now you actually can turn the water on or off with your elbows!
The Pilar also has a pull-out spray nozzle that lets you simply pull it down for spraying pots and the like. And when it’s not in use, the spray wand docks in the faucet’s neck, held there by what they call MagnaTite™ docking, which includes a powerful magnet mounted in the spray head. It helps to both center the wand and pull it firmly into place.
Finally, they have am optional item I find myself yearning for: a coordinated soap dispenser that complements the faucet. No more mismatched plastic soap bottles cluttering the countertop! And because this soap dispenser loads from the top, you do NOT have to crawl under the sink, which is a design feature my aging knees find particularly attractive.
All in all, I honestly don’t think the competition can really touch this concept. But if I had it in my kitchen, I’d be touching the bejabbers out of it!
