“Hideaway”

YesterTec Kitchen Designs 2 The other week I wrote a blog that was really born in a conversation I’d had with my wife, one of those lazy Sunday morning let’s-just-put-on-another-pot-of-coffee discussions. We were discussing what we’d do if we ever did hit it big with this website, and a major remodeling of the house seemed like just the ticket. The idea was that we would move the kitchen to the other side of the house so she could have an ocean view when she washed up, expand the bathrooms, and essentially, take out the existing kitchen. But what do you do when you want some snacky-poos in the enjoining family room with the big-screen TV? There would still be a corridor that joins that room to the living room, but not much more than that. A second kitchen would be just the thing, but what kind?

Well, as I said in the first blog that was born of this discussion, as one who has written so much on just that very subject, finding a mini-kitchen on the Internet that would fit the bill did not seem like much of a chore. The other week I featured a European company, but today I would like to talk about a company in my own USA that has come up with a truYesterTec Kitchen Designs 3ly elegant solution, namely The YesterTec Kitchen Works, which is located in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.

What they have done is nothing more than turn the entire idea of kitchen designs upside down and inside out. The company owner came to it from outside the industry altogether, which is a wonderful place to start at times, because it means you enter it with no preconceived ideas of what a kitchen needs to be, if it is to be successful. All he really knew, starting out, was that he wanted to make kitchens that didn’t look like kitchens. So, one idea chased another, and in the end, YesterTec came up with the idea of putting an entire mini-kitchen inside an armoire.

One of the key engineering features, as they are quick to point out on their website, is the ability to safely conceal built-in cooking appliances, because the thought of leaving the stove on by mistake and then closing the doors is not particularly welcome. To avoid this, theyYesterTec Kitchen Designs 4 came up with a patented system whereby the oven and cooktop simply will not operate with the bi-fold doors closed in front of them.

What’s in it? Pretty much everything: refrigerator, dishwasher, 2-burner cooktop, sink, oven, exhaust hood, and plenty of storage space. And because it comes in two fully assembled pieces, there is very little for the installation beyond the electric and plumbing systems.

And where could such an item go? Well, where do you want it to go, because all you’ll need is a place to put a 24″ deep 70″ wide cabinet. But what that does is open the door wide open for design considerations. It would fit quite nicely in the corridor of our fantasy home remodeling, but also it would fit into just about any room a person has that would be enhanced with a second kitchen. Maybe, if you cook like we really cook (not much unless it’s Thanksgiving or Christmas), you could fit your next kitchen into just about any place your imagination can conceive, because the Armoire Kitchen goes a hideaway one better. It lets you hide it in plain sight.

There you go Joe, another second kitchen solution. And it looks like they do the job quite nicely. That would be perfect for someone with a big office in their home.
