Elica Corner Hoods 2

“The WOW Factor”

Elica Corner Hoods 1 There is a quiet revolution going on under our noses that not many are aware of, and it’s led by a cutting-edge European company that manufacturers one of the more pedestrian products any kitchen has, namely the kitchen hood. Or that is to say, Elica manufactures what was FORMERLY the most mundane, etc., because I have to tell you that there is nothing mundane about the hoods these people have come up with. Quite the contrary, in fact.

And that brings us to one of my motifs with these blogs. “Look up near the ceiling. It’s a vent, it’s a hood, it’s a space eater, it’s a lump, it’s ugly. And if that fairly describes the range hood in your kitchen, then you are very much missing a bet.”

That’s how I began one of my blogs, but it really underlines a theme I have developed in a number of blogs I have written on this subject. Kitchen hoods are the easiest-and frankly the best-way to add WOW to anyone’s kitchen.

Here’s how I look at it. You have to have a hood; we all know that. In lots and lots of kitchens, though, including mine (not yet remodeled!), the hood is one of those small range hoods that goes underneath a cabinet. They then run a six or eight inch vent right up through the center of the cabinet. So, now you have a cabinet that is essentially useless for any storage you may hope to get out of it. And the hood that you absolutely must have is a very pedestrian-looking range hood.

Elica Corner Hoods 3 I say, rip out that cabinet and put in a glorious kitchen hood. And that brings me back to where I began this blog, with a company very much on the cutting edge of kitchen hood designs. In recent years European kitchen designers have been exploring-with great success, I might add-the concept of placing stoves and cooktops in the corner of the kitchen, thereby making much better use of what so often becomes the dreaded blind corner cabinet configuration, where kitchen paraphernalia goes to die, and old men with arthritic knees squat in a kind of purgatory, trying desperately to retrieve whatever went into that black hole. What the hell DID we put in that cabinet. sorry, went away for a while!

But to return to Elica, theirs is an entire company devoted to the design of some truly cutting edge concepts for kitchen hoods, so when a need developed for a stylish hood for the corner stove, they quickly came up with their own line of elegant solutions. But Elica kitchen hoods are more than a pretty face, as I’ve surely pointed out on a few occasions. I’m looking for a kitchen hood that makes a design statement, but I also need it to make a “suck-up-the-kitchen-grease-and-smoke-and-odors-and-get-it-the-heck-out-of-here” statement! Well, the stylish Personal Elica corner hood with its clean modern lines in stainless steel and glass has all the muscle it needs to get the job done. It has a powerful, 3-speed blower capable of reaching airflow up to 750 cubic meters per hour, which is more than enough for just about any kitchen. We still limp along with a little range hood that produces less than half that amount of power, but it does the job just fine. So unless you’re looking to remove clothing, the 750 cm/h will more than do the job! These hoods also have two 20 watt halogen lamps and a metal washable grease filter. And they’re quiet! And they look marvelous! Hey, that’s some wow!
