Cabinets by Design Modern Italian Bathroom Designs

“Higher Than an Eagle”
One of the things I have learned while doing these blogs is that many of the companies I write about are like roses; they have many petals. A case in point would be Cabinets by Design which we featured last month. What intrigued me about Cabinets by Design then is what intrigues me now, namely that they are an American-based company that imports much of their wares from Europe, because what they represent by so doing is the best of two worlds, really. Or, perhaps I should say they are the best of the old world made available in the new.
In my case, I have waxed ecstatic about their kitchen collection, as kitchens are very much an interest of mine, but I have also had occasion to visit their site in some depth. One of the other things I have noticed is their broad breadth of bathroom design concepts, which brings me to the subject of today’s blog, namely the Apogeo Collection, which Cabinets by Design has imported from Italy.
What I find myself liking about the designs here are both their variety and their practicality. They come in all sizes and shapes, because bathrooms tend to do the same. Some of these designs would be quite at home in my minuscule bathroom, while others would be equally comfortable in one of those behemoth bathrooms some of you have. I also like the trimness of the lines they employed in their designs and the basic neatness of the concepts themselves.
What is particularly intriguing about Cabinets by Design, though, is that they are importers of a wide range of Italian companies, which means, in consequence, that they have any number of bathroom designs that are available to their customers, because each of the twelve companies Cabinets by Design uses just for their bathroom vanities has a wide range of concepts and ideas. Because of space constraints, I can only deal with one of their many companies, and even then, only part of the output of the Apogeo Collection. Like all Italian design companies, they start with a design concept then roll out variation after variation on it. I’m not sure if all those Italian companies tend to do that because they are so aware of the fact that one size does not fit all or if it’s simply because they have the designer chops to do such things. Either way, it’s a definite plus for consumers.
Interestingly enough, Apogeo is the Italian for apogee, and seeing the heights to which they’ve gone with their bathroom designs, it’s hard to come up with a better name for them. I counted some fourteen different variations on their vanity design, employing half a dozen different sinks, and a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes. And all of these were on one basic concept, which just astounds me all the more. No bird flies too high if he soars on his own wings, they say, but these people just go stratosphere on us!

I have building a new house, classic design and don’t know what kind of stairs to put in. Every body does oak but I’m not sure, would love to something more traditional with maghogany and painted wood but scared it will not to be to everyone’s taste.
Thanks for this useful posting.

Those who are regular readers of these blogs know that I have very strong feelings on this subject. I believe a home should be designed to fit the needs and tastes of the people who own it. In your case, if a traditional mahogany staircase with white painted spindles was what I wanted, that is what I would install. In fact, I suggest going all the way with this concept. Do NOT use African Mahogany; use Genuine Honduras Mahogany, which is the best grade of mahogany that is readily available in this country.
As for design concepts themselves, my wife and I have always done different things with design. Some people like what we have done; some do not. But, hey, we love what we have done, and that’s all that really matters.
I also feel that thinking only of the resale value of one’s home whenever remodeling ideas are considered is ultimately self-defeating. When the re-sale value becomes paramount, though, you end up with very bland choices. In the end, no matter what you do with your home, only some will actually like it. But if you make the home of your dreams, there may well be another that thinks it is just what they’ve been looking for. The original owners of our current home remodeled it quite a bit, and in consequence, it sat on the market for one solid year. Then we saw it, got a quick 60-second walk-through and immediately decided it was the house of our dreams.
Please yourself. It’s an considerably easier and a great deal more rewarding.
