“Can’t Get Enough”

Porcelanosa Tile 2 I don’t know if there is such a thing as a twelve-step program for tile addiction, but if there were, I am quite sure that I wouldn’t sign up for it. Not because I’m “in denial,” but because I know how fascinating tile can be, and I think I am justified in having so strong an interest in the medium. The thing with tile is that it is possible to create just about any kind of ambience with it, and this is especially true when the tile is used, as it is in the case of the examples we’ve shown here, in the bathroom.

It’s a rare bathroom indeed that does not include the use of some kind of tile in at least part of the room. If there is any kind of a shower enclosure, you can use tile or you can use one of those god-awful preformed plastic shower/tub enclosures or just a shower pan with glass doors, but either way, the item itself is fairly described as something less than inspiring. And if you tell me that sounds like the complaint of a guy who has lived with that sort of bathroom arrangement for all of the years he has spent in this Vale of Tears, you get a big “Bingo!”

Porcelanosa Tile 1 Any bathroom is wet, and just about any kid of tile, if it is installed properly, is waterproof, so the combination of tile and bathrooms is pretty much a no-brainer. But the other part that becomes a different sort of no-brainer is the use to which tile is often used in tract housing, and this time when we say no-brainer, we mean that the person who designed these homes-if hodge-podged together can be called a design!-did not actually have access to a working brain. Tile is an absolutely glorious medium, and the proof of that is no further away than the subject of today’s blog, namely Porcelanosa Tile.

Porcelanosa was founded more than thirty years ago in a small village by the Mediterranean Sea in Castellon, Spain, but it has certainly not stayed there. They are now in seventy countries world wide, represented in some four hundred company-owned showrooms, distribution centers and an extensive network of independent distributors and retailers. I occasionally get questions on where to obtain a particular product, but honest to goodness, if you can’t find Porcelanosa near you, you’re probably not trying very hard. And looking at the products they have come up with, it is really not hard to figure out the secret of their success.

Porcelanosa Tile 6 The tile that tops this blog is their Roble Boston, which is a wonderful large “wood-looking” title that measures 8″x47″. Porcelanosa Tile is available in just about any form, from tumbled and polished marbles to porcelain and ceramic tiles, and all stops in between, including glass and mosaic. They can be used on walls, ceilings, floors, and in any kind of backsplash or shower surround. Really, it’s the kind of product whose use is limited only by one’s imagination, and if you hook up with the right person, or have that kind of imagination yourself, well, there are no limits.

Certainly, Porcelanosa cannot be said to have been limited in any way in their output, which makes them just the kind of company I have in mind for the remodeling I so desperately want to do in our bathrooms. I mean, it’s gotten to a point where all I think about, pretty much, is those bathrooms and what could be done with a little tile. Make that a glorious, innovative, cutting-edge tile of a type that can only be found at a company like Porcelanosa. Man, I’ve got it bad. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, my will is not my own. Well, OK, maybe I am in denial. I might as well face it, I’m addicted to tile.

They have some great stuff, don’t they? The ceramic “wood planks” are a fantastic idea for bathroom floors – especially with some heating underneath

Man, that is a slick idea! I never even thought of something like that, but it would certainly help in the winter months!
