“Are You Ready for Some Barbecue?”
Oh, c’mon weather, change! This man is ready to go! I do not, thank all that is holy, live in snow country. Actually, I’m in San Diego, but it is not quite as perfect a weather condition as we like to get people thinking it is. Don’t get me wrong, it is pretty much the mildest climate on earth, but we do have winter, do have heavy rains, do have days when it’s cold. For us. That sort of thing is, of course, relative, but for us it is cold, I say, and this year the cold weather seems to be hanging on. Or maybe I’ve just been paying too much attention to barbecue ideas as I make my way through cyberspace for blog ideas. But, honest to goodness, I can really sympathize with the guy in a TV ad I saw a few weeks ago for a charcoal briquette. It’s summer, and the barbecue is going, and there’s a party going on. A guy stumbles out of the house with a parka on, bangs into his buddies and says, “How long have I been gone? It was so white and cold all the time.” Another guy says, “That was winter, man.” A third sits him down in a chair, hands him a beer and hollers over his shoulder, “Quick! Get this man a hamburger!”
So, with that I can turn to the subject of today’s blog which is the 24″ warming cabinet from Kalamazoo. We show it here with the new hybrid grill from Kalamazoo that I was drooling over a couple of weeks ago. Why a warming cabinet, you ask. Well, Pete Georgiadis, the president of Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet, has an answer for you. He says, “Our warming cabinet brings more freedom to the outdoor kitchen and shatters the old way of storing food outdoors. Now you can keep turkeys, hams, and large bowls of dips warm outside. You’re no longer restricted to small, flat hors d’oeuvres.”
And for those who have set up their backyard kitchens to be just that, backyard kitchens, as opposed to a barbecue and an ice chest full of beer (not that there’s anything wrong with that!), well, a warming cabinet may be just the ticket, simply because of the versatility it provides. The other thing I find especially welcome about this particular product is that it is made by Kalamazoo, which means it carries the quality they’re known for–and heavy-gauge stainless steel.
The cabinet itself has 4.7 cubic feet of warm storage space, and it free of the space and height restrictions that traditionally encumber warming drawers. Instead of a single drawer, it is actually a cabinet with two adjustable-height warming shelves that roll out on full-extension stainless steel glides. More than that, these shelves have been perforated to allow heat and moisture circulation, and can accommodate a wide variety of plate and platter sizes. The cabinet also has the capability of an optional third food shelf. It comes with a specially-designed thermometer to help ensure proper heat levels within the cabinet. Finally, the cabinet has a louvered cabinet door that is both stylish and practical, as it helps with cabinet ventilation and keeps out rain, for those of you who don’t enjoy rain-free San Diego summers. Sorry about the little dig! But for those who have rainy summers, the louvered door and exclusive weather-tight rain gutter engineering are sure to be appreciated.
But what you most have to appreciate, no matter where you are this summer, is barbecue and beer. It’s what America is all about.
