Details, Details”

tecnocucina modern kitchen designs 5 Back in February I wrote a blog on Tecnocucina, which is an Italian company creating some very slick kitchen designs. What caught my eye as I made my way through cyberspace on that particular occasion was a collaboration between Tecnocucina and “Castle Place,” which is located in the United Kingdom. What most fascinated me about that particular project was that it was what we Americans would refer to as a condo conversion, which is when an existing building is converted into condominiums which are then put up for sale. Sometimes it’s just an apartment building that’s being converted, but other times it’s a large old living quarter of some type, or a downtown warehouse. In the case of Castle Place the building they refurbished had been lived in for nearly a thousand years and stands by the historic ruins of Bletchingley Castle, a fortified manor house built in Norman times (here’s a link to that blog if you’re interested).

There was such a fascinating dychomity in that particular project because the stones in the refurbished project had been quarried, dressed, and placed in the final structure many centuries ago, but the people who remodeled it and divided it into six different living quarters specified cutting edge kitchens from an Italian company.

Because of the proximity of the various countries in Europe, one would expect a company as innovative as Tecnocucina to do well in Europe, but they have larger ambitions than that and have opened a branch office in Singapore. It’s a move that has certainly paid off for them because they recently furnished an exclusive villa in the heart of Singapore. Opened in April of 2010, the building is the first of a project for some 28 units that are currently being built.

I was recently in contact with the Sales Director at Tecnocucina, and he was kind enough to send me some pictures he took of the finished villa. Their Karem kitchen design overlooks the “infinity pool” and blends in with the living area of the home, emphasizing Tecnocucina’s “Living Kitchen” concept, which they have defined as “a single space where the technical area meets the authentic living area.”

Tecnocucina has been producing and exporting Italian design and quality all over the world for more than thirty years now, and they are rather proud, as they certainly should be, of their results. They have created partnerships with famous architects and international contractors because of their flexibility, their ongoing research into new materials, and their unremitting attention to details. But any cabinetmaker worth his salt would be. God is in the details.
