“A Place by the River”
One of my favorite bloggers is Cheryl Kees Clendenon, who has a blog called Details and Designs. Cheryl has an interior design company in Pensacola, Florida that specializes in kitchens, baths, and interiors. Some time back she ran a blog on laundry room design, which she titled “The Lowly Laundry Gets Some Respect” (I’ve included a hyperlink to that blog). Cheryl’s contention is that those with the room for such things should really be thinking in terms of a fairly large laundry room. Excepting only the very rich (gees, wouldn’t you just love to be described that way!), all of us spend a fair amount of time with the laundry every week, and having a room dedicated to that purpose makes life a bit easier. And gives it some flair. I bring that up because I thought of her just now when I came across the subject of today’s blog, namely, Riva. They bill themselves as doing something for the “lowly laundry room,” and looking at what they have to offer, it is plain to me that they really do.
Actually, I have the feeling that more of us would opt for a laundry room if only we were given the opportunity to have one. Ideally, such a room should be just off the kitchen. In our home, the washer and dryer are on one side of the garage, which is a typical configuration. My mother-in-law has been able to partition hers off a bit from the rest of the garage itself, and it has a custom storage cabinet on wheels (so they can simply roll it to one side whenever they want to scrub the floor) designed and built by yours truly. So, she’s actually got a leg up on us. Hey, how did I let that happen! But, be that as it may, I do think the idea of a simple partition and some storage cabinetry would do well for a laundry room, even if it must be, as so many of them are, simply one portion of a busy garage.
But to get this back to the subject of today’s blog, Electrolux and Riva have teamed up to create some very sleek laundry room designs that could be used in almost any context. Naturally, those of us with the space for it would prefer having a dedicated room for the laundry, but for those who are relegated, as we are, to a section of the garage or some other equally truncated space, it might well be possible to incorporate some of these items into that space, whatever its size, thereby making it much nicer than it has heretofore been. Were it not for th
e cabinets I have already made for my workshop tools, I could easily convert the washer/dryer side of the garage into a laundry room space that would be rather nice.
And a collection like the one we show here would be just the place to start. It has plenty of stylish and space-efficient shelving, and there are cabinets and surfaces for ironing and folding laundry. The other cool thing is the built-in appliances and sink. Electrolux has developed a new washing machine they call the Shine, which they designed with the idea that it could be placed in a bathroom. There are two Shine washing machine concepts: one freestanding and one wall mounted, but either of them would also do quite well in a formal laundry room concept. Enter Riva. They have come up with the concepts we show here, any one of which would just tickle the wife pink! But just that alone, having built-in appliances, would do much to make even a garage setting look rather chic. Also, the neutral wood finish would blend into just about any style, and the results would surely turn chaos into order, making it just a wonderful place by the-wait for it now-just a wonderful place by the Riva.

Thank you for mentioning us Joseph! I think theae cabinets are gorgeous!!!! I will have to investigate! I think laundry rooms fo not get enough attention!
