Visiting The Outdoor GreatRoom Company at KBIS 2011

“It’s All Right”
I have watched my fair share of movies either made or sited in Europe, and one of the things I have noted with some regularity is this whole concept of dining al fresco. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen a large group of people gathered about a table set outdoors and found myself wishing I could be part of that group. It’s a setting that evokes a sense of family that’s hard to match in any other venue. It’s something we do in this country too, although not with that frequency. What is needed, really, is a whole room back there. But put something together like that, and suddenly people can’t get enough of it, which naturally brings us to the subject of today’s blog, The Outdoor GreatRoom Company.
One of the things that most impressed me abut this company when I first wrote about them in 2008 was the innovation with which they approached their work. The whole idea of
making a Backyard Paradise, really, is to design it in such a way that when people first see it, the immediate response is “Holy Smokes!” It’s the one sure sign that you’ve hit a homerun.
But after the initial thrill of the new has passed, the other aspect of it is to make of this glorious space something that is immediately welcoming, something that causes a person to want to sit for hours at a time. A lot of that is the company, no doubt about it. Get the right people together, and you can sit on apple crates around a table made by dropping a sheet of plywood on a couple of saw horses. But for those who like a bit more sophistication in their backyard, there is The Outdoor GreatRoom Company, because these people get the whole idea of a Backyard Paradise.
Well, the world being as small as it is these days, The Outdoor GreatRoom Company was present at KBIS, and I was able to come away with their press kit and to learn a bit about some of their newer products. One of the problems
with these Backyard Paradises, even in a place as temperate as San Diego, is the inevitable night chill. And that’s where a fireplace suddenly makes all kinds of sense. The Outdoor GreatRoom Company actually has more ideas in that regard than I can cover in a single blog, so I thought I’d concentrate on one of their slicker ideas for outdoor fireplaces.
The Outdoor GreatRoom Company has a large line of fire pits with crystal fire in all sizes and shapes. And price ranges, which is especially nice. They call it Crystal Fire technology because they actually use glass fire crystals that are available in five different colors. The fire itself can run for a full sixteen hours using an LP tank, which is hidden inside these tables, or they can be hooked up to a natural gas line. Either way they light with the push of a button and the flame height can be adjusted. Another nice touch is that several of these tables come with inserts to put over the fire pit when it’s not in use.
Have you ever had one of those wonderful evenings with guests or family, one of those nights when the food seemed especially wonderful, and the company more delightful than you remember? And somewhere along the line the conversation takes one of those wonderful turns, usually over a serious subject, but sometimes over laughter too, but just one of those evenings that you cannot bear to see end. Get an evening like that (and with the right Backyard Paradise, I’m telling you, you’ll may end up with more than you think), but get an evening like that, I say, and it’s just damned near a crime to have to cut it short because people are getting chilly. With something like these Fire Pits with Crystal Fire from The Outdoor GreatRoom Company you won’t have to. It can truly be an endless evening set within an endless summer. You know what they say when it’s all night!
