“What You Need”

dwyer compact kitchens 2 Kitchens, as I’ve learned these last three years plus of researching and writing, come in all sizes and shapes. They also come with a number of different purposes and configurations to suit those purposes. I know, I know. Right now you’re saying, hey, man, kitchens are to cook in, and indeed they are. Sometimes. I have previously blogged on kitchens that are large and showy and really intended more as a gathering place for company than as places where people actually cook. Some of the more wealthy among us actually have full-sized second kitchens where the cooks prepare the meals while the hosts hold forth in the Show Kitchen.

There are also a number of second kitchens that have been made available for people in this world like you and me. And again, these second kitchens, like their big sisters, perform all sorts of functions. My business partner on this site, Joe Dusel, has a patio room with a microwave, coffee pot and sink, all the elements necessary to a second kitchen, really, and Joe often uses it that way when he entertains. Second kitchens can be used in master bedrooms for any of a number of reasons. In fact we have a refrigerator in our master bedroom for beer and wine, so now if we get a hot pad of some sort and possibly a sink other than the bathroom sink, we’d have a second kitchen. It’s something people do for all kinds of reasons. And sometimes, because of size or budget restraints, it’s not a second kitchen at all; it’s a compact kitchen.

dwyer compact kitchens 3 All of this is by way of introduction to a company I was recently introduced to, namely Dwyer Kitchens. They have a surprisingly large line of compact kitchens. I say surprising because I was frankly surprised with the depth of their offerings. A guy like me would probably have been content with one or two offerings in this field. Not Dwyer! They have three main lines, Metro, Classic, and Signature, and any number of variations on these three lines, the better to meet one’s anticipated needs.

Their Metro line is designed for efficiency and style in a small space, and by small space, man, they mean small space! These kitchens start in sizes as small as only thirty-nine inches wide and go up from there. Really, that’s less space than the average size closet, but, even so, they offer a full range of kitchen amenities in this space. They’re used for vacation homes, outdoor entertaining, or as a morning bar off the master bedroom suite.

Dwyer also has a Classic Series that begins at 57″ that is designed for efficiency and style in a small space, which includes such features as dishwashers and ovens. Finally their Signature Series, which begins at 63″, offers the functionality of a full-size kitchen with an upright refrigerator. It’s just the thing for Office Break Rooms and the like, even assisted living facilities. Or one could use these as a primo second kitchen.

dwyer compact kitchens 5 They have also been used as temporary kitchens during kitchen remodelings. This last is a wonderful idea, to a point that Dwyer also has a number of mobile designs that have been purchased by kitchen remodeling companies for their customers’ use during kitchen demolition and replacement. Despite their small size, these Temp Kitchens from Dwyer pretty much have it all including a dishwasher with quick and easy plumbing hook-ups! With work drying up the way it is in these restricted economic times, remodeling companies need every advantage they can get, and the ability to offer their customers an actual, honest-to-goodness fully operating kitchen would have to be a decided leg up on the competition. Something like this just has to beat the heck out of cooking with an electric fry pan for a month or two!

From the wheeled Temp Kitchen to their more permanent installations, these kitchens have as much or as little as a body desires, ranging from the extremely compact to kitchens that, although still compact, are outfitted with dishwashers, under-counter refrigerators, cooktops and ovens. And I’m told they can even supply a microwave or icemaker if desired. Really, if Dwyer doesn’t provide it, you don’t need it!

Great idea with the temporary kitchens. It can be really painful and expensive to be without a kitchen while your kitchen is being remodeled. We could also use a compact kitchen in our caboose.
