Italian Kitchen Designs from Arclinea

“Undiscovered Country”
I often talk about a kitchen as part of a Great Room, consisting of family room, kitchen, and dining room, but the thing of it is that it is often a more practical way to live. It means that not so much space is taken up for these rooms as would be the case with three separate rooms, and it also means that fragmented families are brought together. Actually, there is a certain amount of serendipity going on here. On our way to downsizing our homes and expectations and lifestyles, we have stumbled upon something that is better, namely, the Great Room.
One of the fantasies we are always drooling over is one of those gargantuan thousand-square-foot kitchens, but the times they are a-changing, and our needs are changing as well. Houses are not as large as they once were. Just a few years ago, new homes of 2400 square feet were the norm. Now that is changing, as is the idea of trading up to new and bigger homes as part of a routine procession from small to large to humongous. Real estate is as stagnate as it has ever been. So what do you do if the circumstances of your life require you to stay in a home that you may regard as too small?
And that brings me back to Square One with this, namely, the kitchen as part of a Great Room. More than that, it brings me to Arclinea, which is kind of interesting, because the whole idea of a Great Room is to bring people together, which is something the Internet is also doing. Italian products are widely available throughout Europe these da
ys, but Arclinea is one of many that have taken their products worldwide, including North America and our own USA. But it’s not just the Internet that has made Arclinea’s worldwide distribution possible. It’s because Arclinea has come up with some absolutely stunning kitchen designs, one of which is the Spatia, which is ideal for the kitchen-as-a part-of-a-Great-Room. You can hide this baby. But more than that, what you are hiding is not a truncated kitchen that fits into a rather confined space. You are hiding a full-size, honest-to-goodness kitchen, something you can actually use to prepare your meals.
The Spatia by Arclinea really is what they claim on their website, “an all-pervading kitchen.” More and more these days, kitchens are the hub of our homes, as it was in days of yore when the family gathered by a fireplace in what was often the only room. This particular kitchen, though, has it all over that long-ago concept of everyone squatting in a room with a smoky fireplace and dirt floor! Truthfully, it has it all over what most of call kitchens these days, simply because Arclinea provides only what is necessary.
This is a kitchen that simply goes behind closed doors when it is not needed, which face it, is most of the day, pretty much. But doing something like that makes the concept of a Great Room much more viable, simply because it is then possible to do other things like watch TV, do homework, relax a bit, simply converse with our loved ones. Remember conversation? Convert a largely unused kitchen to a Great Room, and you may rediscover it!
