Happy New Year 2012!!!

1 January 2012

MayanCalender3Or is it a happy new year? After all, there are a number of folks who believe that the world will end on December 21, 2012. So, should we not buy Christmas presents until the 22nd just to be sure? Maybe we should just party like its 2012. Damn, there are a lot of things I still need to do in my life. The bummer is that I don’t have the money to do them. Then again, some people believe that this date will mark the start of a period of positive change. I’m thinking that November 6, 2012 might be the more cataclysmic day depending on which way the elections to go.

My neighbor's horsesOn my daily walk today I ran into a neighbor who I had not seen in a while. He was taking his walk like he usually does with a baseball bat to deter any vicious dogs he might encounter. Our neighborhood is kind of a cross between the country and the city as you can see by the horses across the street. Some people seem to have a bit of a problem keeping their dogs in the yard.

So my neighbor told me this was the first walk he had taken in months. In September he had congestive heart failure, and he almost died. In fact, his doctors told him he was not going to make it. Fortunately he did, and now he’s not taking a day of his life for granted. He cleaned up his diet, stopped drinking and now he appears to be on the road to recovery. I guess the reality is that we should all live life as if it is our last year, or day for that matter. It was nice to see him again, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to shake his hand and wish him the best for the new year.

I guess the truth is, none of us really know when our time is up. And we never know that for our friends and loved ones either. I always regret learning of the death of someone I know, and not having had the opportunity to let them know that I appreciated them in my life. This year I want to make a point to let everyone in my life know just how special they are. Hey, this could be our last year right?

We have been having fun at CFT411 for about four years now. My partner Joe Freenor has written a lot of articles on a lot of great subjects, and we have met a number of terrific people through this forum. We have both learned a lot through this effort, not only from the research of the subjects, but from the knowledgeable friends we have made. I hope you all will stick around with us to see where our adventure takes us. Happy New Year to you all!
