“Stick With What Works”

Doolight Cordless Rechargeable Lights 1 This is one of the slicker ideas I’ve seen in some time, so I thought I would make it the subject of my first blog for the New Year. As I pointed out in my last blog for last year, I mean to do less blogging this year and more sawdust making, as I have a rather ambitious agenda for home improvement projects.

One of the things I will be looking for, though, is new fixtures for various rooms, and one of the ideas that tends to suggest itself is the subject of today’s blog. When you first look at the Doolight it may not look much different than any other ceiling light, apart from the styling of it, of course. But, really, it looks like just another ceiling light. Wrong! As it turns out, this is one of the damnedest lights I believe I have seen. I suppose you could actually use this ceiling light in any room of the house, but it is absolutely ideal for a dining room.

Doolight Cordless Rechargeable Lights 2 What I like about the Doolight is the fact that it is both a fixture and not a fixture, if that makes any kind of sense! But think about it for a moment. You go into the dining room and turn on the chandelier over the dining room table. So where are all your lights? Simple enough. They’re in the fixture attached to the ceiling. But what if you decided to do something else with that? And that’s where this whole idea becomes a most intriguing one.

When my wife and I entertain we invariably use candlelight for the dining room which we sometimes augment with the chandelier. Every dining room chandelier we ever had was on a dimmer switch, as no doubt, is the one in your own home, and the reason for that is simple. We have always enjoyed intimate dinner parties, and especially so when we have a group of people who will come for the evening, not just the dinner! Part of what makes that kind of evening special is subdued lighting; it’s the quickest way I know to establish an intimate setting. We have been known to sit in the dining room for hours with a bit of cognac, coffee, candlelight and congenial company. And that brings us back to the Doolight because what they have developed here is most definitely slicker than slick, and especially so for the summer months.

Doolight Cordless Rechargeable Lights 4 The Doolight is a cordless, heatless ceiling light that can be used in any number of configurations and at any level of light. One activates it by touching the side of the fixture. Want it brighter or dimmer? You simply hold unto it until the desired degree of lighting is obtained, which is a feature I’ve seen in other lighting fixtures. But Doolight goes that one better, in that the fixture itself requires no wiring of any kind, and this in turn, means that one can actually remove the lights from the fixture and place them wherever one wants them.

When we have dinner guests, we sometimes conclude the meal at the dinner table and then adjourn the proceedings to the living room for more cognac, coffee, and conversation. Well, again, in such a setting, one creates the perfect ambiance with candlelight, but in the summer months our windows are open, so I don’t have to tell you what a mess those candles make with dripping wax. Enter Doolight. One simply removes one or more of the lights from the chandelier and takes them wherever one wishes them to be. They run on rechargeable batteries; a few hours of charging, and these babies are good for ten hours, which easily takes a dinner party into the wee hours of the morning. That will work.

That looks like a very interesting idea. I would still like to see them in person though. I wonder how much light they actually produce.
